Dear Colleague,

It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve as the Interim Pastor of MCC of Topeka for the last year and a half. From my first visit, I was tremendously touched by the amount of spiritual energy present and which is abundant here.

The leadership team and the congregation have been and continue to be open to where the Spirit of God is calling them. The interim period can be very stressful and at MCC of Topeka was compounded by the retirement of their twenty-year spiritual leader. The congregation and her leaders made the decision to embrace the interim period as a time of reflection, evaluation and discernment of God’s calling to the next part of their spiritual journey. It has been a time in which we all have been blessed by one another and God.

MCC of Topeka has a clear understanding of where God is calling them and what type of church they are to be. In the last year, MCC of Topeka is rapidly becoming a valuable resource and a center for LGBT people and other marginalized people in Topeka. PFLAG, along with Topeka Aids Project (TAP), Topeka Transgender Alliance, three AA groups for LGBT, Heterosexual and mixed groups meet here, and also Al-Anon. We have hosted the annual Topeka PRIDE picnic for the last two years. The local theatre community within the last week hosted a fundraising show here which was held over two nights and resulted in a full house.

The Children’s ministry at MCC of Topeka is a blessing not only to this church but their garden and fundraisers benefit the surrounding local community and also were recognized by the denomination at the last regional conference for their contributions to Mother of Peace Orphanage in Zimbabwe. The lessons we learn from their local and global outreach help us all to grow spiritually.

You will find this a church with dedicated individuals who are serious about listening to their calling, are enthusiastic about their calling and believe in empowering others. And they are especially willing to embrace others and learn along the journey.

God’s Blessings to You,
Rev. Patrick Rogers
